Small Farm Vegetable Production Field Day
May 2, 2010 | Rockland, WI

Sweet Ridge Farm works with permaculture and bio-intensive growing techniques to produce vegetables on five acres for wholesale and direct-to-consumer markets. This workshop is designed to help participants learn how one family makes a portion of their livelihood on five acres. Covered during the field day will be: What vegetable crops are profitable to grow on a small scale; Bio-intensive and permaculture techniques; Wholesale versus direct-to-consumer sales; and the role of livestock. If you're a fruit or vegetable grower interested in extending your growing season, this workshop is a must! Spend two days learning hands-on how to construct a high tunnel. Adam Montri will join us from Michigan State University to lead the workshop. Montri and his wife Dru and daughter Lydia own and operate Ten Hens Farm, a year-round farm, in Bath, Michigan. Introduction to Biodynamic Agriculture

Join us for an introduction to the comprehensive ecological methods behind the Biodynamic farming movement inspired by Rudolf Steiner. We'll explore the farm, learning how soils, plants, animals, and people together form a dynamic living organism. Hands-on activities will include preparation-making, applications to compost and fields, plant observations, and learning how to use planetary calendars. Angelic Organics' own Farmer John will discuss the inspiration, evolution, and vision of this farm, as well as his experiences visiting Biodynamic farms around the world.
